Ecosystem carbon cycling and disturbance

Advisor: Chris Gough, Ph.D., Department of Biology

I study how temperate forests and wetlands take up and store carbon following disturbance. I'm particularly interested in how we can scale up processes occurring at the individual leaf level to whole canopies, landscapes, or regions. I think it's really cool (and good news!) that not all disturbances are "bad" for the terrestrial carbon cycle. Understanding how different systems respond to different disturbances is critical for allowing us to forecast the future of the climate system.
