Nicotine, Cannabinoid, and Alcohol Use and Impairment
Advisor: Michelle Peace, Ph.D., Department of Forensic Science
The use of electronic nicotine and cannabinoid devices has increased in recent years, especially within adolescents as well as the variety of devices and contents being used. My current research focuses on identifying the trends of youth vaping and analyzing the contents of products by studying devices confiscated directly from public school students. This study aims to bring attention to and detail the need for stronger legislation and regulation of these devices to combat adolescent youth by highlighting the range of active ingredients, device types, flavor profiles, and compounds that have not been studied for this use nor their effects identified in this study. I am also interested in research regarding the impairment of varying active compounds found in these devices as well as alcohol on all age groups.
