Gene flow in heterogeneous landscapes
Advisor: Rodney Dyer, Ph.D., Center for Environmental Studies
Humans are continuously modifying landscapes and my research focuses on evolutionary consequences for organisms that exists in and around those habitats. Using flowering dogwood as a study system, I look at how landscapes along gradient of modification from urban to suburban to second growth forest affect insect mediated pollen movement among trees. Additionally, I ask how movement of cultivar genotypes into native populations may impact early fitness traits of dogwoods in forested habitats.
